Sociology pathways
Course overview
Students take 6 modules per academic year (3 per semester).
The following introductory modules are offered in the first year:
- Understanding Society
- Digital Society
- Sociological Imagination
- Sociology of Work
- PLUS a choice of 2 other modules (according to degree programme, availability and timetabling) from Social Policy, Criminology, Psychology, Anthropology, or Politics
In second year, core modules include:
- Development of Social Theory
- Contemporary Society
- Research Skills I
- Research Skills II
- PLUS a choice of 2 other modules, such as:
- Sociology of Religion
- Northern Ireland: Conflict, Identity, Peace
- Biography and Society
- City Life
In third year, Single Honours sociology students spend two modules researching and writing their Research Dissertation. Other core modules include:
- Development and Change
- Issues in Contemporary Irish Society
- PLUS optional modules such as:
- Global Society: Power and Participation
- Disability and Society
- Gender and Reproduction
