My study is an in-depth exploration of factors responsible for school dropout at the basic level of education in Ghana from children’s perspective, and an examination of how these perspectives can contribute to existing policies and programmes to make them more effective. The epistemological foundations of the study will be grounded in social construction/constructivist ontology. Special focus will be on children who have dropped out of school, and children in school, before moving on to parents, school functionaries and child welfare workers. Emphasis will be on techniques that seek to understand children from their point of view and not from adultist perspectives.
