Anne was appointed as Lecturer in Sociology/Social Policy (Health) in January 2012. She is also one of the Co-Investigators at the Centre of Excellence for Public Health (NI) (http://coe.qub.ac.uk/). Before joining QUB she worked as a Research Fellow in the School of Community Health Sciences in the University of Nottingham (http://www.nottingham.ac.uk/chs/index.aspx). Anne’s research primarily focuses on the relationship between social environment and health. In particular, she has been looking at the links between psychosocial work environment and health behaviours, examining factors such as workplace social capital and workplace stress both at the individual and at the work unit level. Her other interests regard the investigation of socio-economic and psychosocial determinants of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and physical activity in older adults. Her research involves the application of social epidemiological methods, and she has conducted secondary analyses in a number of large longitudinal datasets, most notably in the Finnish Public Sector Study (http://www.ttl.fi/en/fioh/organization/work_organizations/psychosocial_factors/Pages/default.aspx). In the last seven years Anne has published over 50 original articles in international peer reviewed scientific journals. She is involved in a number of on-going national and international collaborations with colleagues from the UCL (http://www.ucl.ac.uk/epidemiology/), Finnish Institute of Occupational Health (http://www.ttl.fi/en/Pages/default.aspx), University of Turku (http://www.med.utu.fi/en/departments/), and University of Michigan School of Public Health (http://www.sph.umich.edu/index.html).
Anyone interested in conducting postgraduate research in any of the above areas especially using large existing cohort studies, should feel free to contact Anne to discuss their ideas.
