Dirk Schubotz completed his Masters in Social Sciences at Humboldt Universität Berlin and his PhD on the professional biographies of teachers involved in the small planned integrated school sector in Northern Ireland, at Kassel University.

He was previously employed as a Research Fellow at the University of Ulster (2000-2003) and Queen’s University Belfast (2003-2012). Dirk is a member of ARK and has directed ARK’s Young Life and Times (YLT) study since 2004 (www.ark.ac.uk/ylt). From 2009-11, he was involved in the Framework 7-funded Euroidentities project (www.euroidentities.org).

Dirk Schubotz’ main research interests lie in research methods and here particularly the development and application of participatory research methods, including research with peer researchers; and biographical methods. Dirk has also undertaken research in the field of sexual and mental health; community relations; as well as more generically research on and with young people.

Dirk is a member of the European Sociological Association (ESA), the European Survey Research Association (ESRA) and the ESRC Peer Review College.
