Research Interests
My primary research interests include education and the labour market. I obtained my PhD from Trinity College Dublin in 2011. My doctoral research was a quantitative study investigating the sectoral patterns in workplace bullying in Ireland and aimed to contextualise workplace bullying in terms of current debates relating to the sociology of work and new public management. I am also interested in work-life conflict and have carried out comparative research with a particular focus on social inequality.
Before joining Queen’s, I held a research position at University College Dublin, working on the EU 7th Framework funded project GINI. I continue to be involved in this project, which investigates both the drivers and impacts of income inequality. I have also held a research position at the Economic and Social Research Institute, Dublin, and was involved in a range of projects with a strong policy focus. These included a longitudinal, mixed methods study of second level students, a mixed methods study exploring the costs of third level participation, as well as a quantitative workplace survey.
Other previous research positions include the ESRC Centre for Population Change, at the University of Southampton, where I am currently Research Associate.
I am Vice-Coordinator of the European Sociological Association’s Research Network Gender Relations in the Labour Market and Welfare State.
