A standard of living index for Northern Ireland

Aims and objectives: Using data from the Northern Ireland Poverty and Social Exclusion Survey, this project develops a standard of living index for Northern Ireland based on the methodology developed by the Ministry of Social Development in New Zealand.

Project: Re-imagining Women's Security in Societies in Transition.

Aims and objectives: The study analyses both the gendered meaning of empowerment and the extent to which consideration has been given to the full and equal participation of women in three different contexts: Northern Ireland, Lebanon and South Africa. The meaning of women's security, in political, economic and social terms, their participation in decision-making and the extent to which gender-based violence impacts upon their lives are explored through the use of focus groups and interviews with selected personnel. In addition, the research carried out a gender audit of key institutions in each of the three countries and assesses the extent to which international commitments to eliminate discrimination against women have been adopted in each country.

Project: Equality and Social Exclusion in Ireland

Aims and objectives: This project builds on the extensive socio-economic equality-related research and policy work already undertaken by teams in UCD, QUB and UU. The project is designed to develop and operationalise an equality and social inclusion framework for the promotion of social justice in both parts of Ireland. 

Project: Secondary Analysis of the Poverty and Social Exclusion Survey

Aims and objectives: This project is based on a secondary analysis of the Poverty and Social Exclusion Northern Ireland Survey and aims to produce a number of bulletins analysing the extent of poverty among different groups.
