Welcome to the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work. We offer a wide range of undergraduate courses in the fields of Social Work, Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology. About 115 students qualify as professional social workers through our BSW programme each year. Around 120 students enter the BA programme annually to study either Sociology, Criminology or Social Policy (or a combination of these subjects).
We also offer many opportunities for postgraduate study and research, including the Masters in Social Research Methods, an MA in Sociology and the Doctorate in Childhood Studies (part taught, part research). Details of any funding opportunities offered by the School are advertised on our website whenever they arise.
Experienced social work practitioners may take a range of post-qualifying courses at diploma and masters levels.
With 47 academic staff, 27 research staff and 65 postgraduate researchers, the School is involved in an extensive range of funded research. We invite you to explore the website to find out more about courses, staff, our students and the research that is in progress.
