Dr Sinéad Morrissey is the author of five poetry collections: There Was Fire in Vancouver (1996), Between Here and There (2002), The State of the Prisons (2005), Through the Square Window (2009) and Parallax (2013) – all from Carcanet Press. Her awards include The Patrick Kavanagh Award, the Rupert and Eithne Strong Award and the Michael Hartnett Poetry Prize. In 2007 Sinéad Morrissey received a Lannan Literary Fellowship from the U.S.A. and her poem ‘Through the Square Window’ was awarded first prize in the UK National Poetry Competition.
Between Here and There, The State of the Prisons and Through the Square Window were all shortlisted for the T S Eliot Prize. Through the Square Window was a Poetry Book Society Choice and was also shortlisted for the Forward Prize for Best Collection. It won the Irish Times/Poetry Now Award in 2010.
Dr Sinéad Morrissey is currently Reader in Creative Writing at the Seamus Heaney Centre/School of English. She convenes the MA in Creative Writing and the BA Undergraduate Pathway in English with Creative Writing.
