Malachi O'Doherty has made his living mostly as a freelance journalist and broadcaster reporting and commenting on the Troubles and the Peace Process.
His books include memoir and cultural and political commentary.
In the Trouble With Guns (1998) he presented an analysis of the political strategy of the Provisional Republican Movement and in The Telling Year (2007) he recalled his work as a cub reporter in Belfast during the most violent year, 1972.
His latest book is a memoir of life on a bicycle (working title: On My Own who Wheels) and is published by Blackstaff Press in 2012.
He has also written on religious themes in the memoir I Was A Teenage Catholic (2003) and in his reflection on the decline of religion in Ireland, Empty Pulpits (2008). He has written a collection of vignettes about his father, Under His Roof (2009, Summer Palace Press).
