Queen’s University has offered degrees in architecture since 1965 when the Department of Architecture was founded within the Faculty of Applied Science and Technology. Architectural education in the QUB School of Planning, Architecture and Civil Engineering has a longstanding tradition in advancing and teaching interdisciplinary design with emphasis on technology and culture.
Degrees Offered:
The BSc is a three year full-time undergraduate course recognised as meeting Part I examination and membership requirements of the RIBA and ARB. It is also the first route to becoming a chartered architect. It offers a wide ranging general education in design, visual appreciation, and architectural technology. Details on Entry Requirements for 2010 can be found here.
The MArch is a two year full-time postgraduate course recognised as meeting Part II examination and membership requirements of the RIBA and ARB. It is the second level towards becoming a chartered architect. The programme allows students to develop their skills and knowledge in architecture and provides support for students to determine the direction of their own education through their choice of dissertation, special subject and second year thesis project. A wide variety of academics, practitioners and consultants from beyond Queen's provide a further dimension to the stimulating educational environment.
The certificate course provides exemption from the RIBA Final Examination Part III and is recognised by the Architects’ Registration Board for the UK for the purposes of registration under the Acts. Successful graduates are eligible for chartered membership of the Royal Institute of British Architects and registration with the Architects Registration Board.
