Edzreena, where are you from?
‘To know Malaysia is to love Malaysia’ – that is one popular quote to begin with and I am a proud Malaysian. Malaysia is a beautiful land full of wonderful sandy beaches, stunning natural scenery and colourful heritage with its multicultural races of Malays, Indians, Chinese and many other ethnic groups.
Why did you decide to come to Queen’s?
The main reason I chose to come to Queen’s was because of my supervisor and my research area which the School specialises in.
Tell me about your academic experience at Queen’s?
I had no experience of living or even studying in a different country before, so I did not know what to expect. Surprisingly, after a couple of months being a Queen’s student, I found myself enjoying the University, as it is both exciting and welcoming.
There is good academic support and you benefit from the different knowledge and experience of the staff and students here. Most importantly, Queen’s offers a wide range of support, both academic and non-academic, ranging from Careers, Academic Skills Support, International Student Support, Counselling and lots more. During the tough times, I knew that I was definitely not alone!
What did you get up to in your spare time?
Apart from the academic standards, Belfast is also known for its historical and scenic attractions such as the well-known RMS Titanic, Belfast and Stormont castle, the Giant’s Causeway and much more! There are therefore lots of things to do and explore while in Belfast and that was what I did during my spare time for the past 3 years.
What is it like living in Belfast?
To end with, I do love living in Belfast as I have received a warm welcome here – I have been made to feel at home.
What are your plans for the future?
When I go back home to Malaysia, I will continue my career as an academician and researcher at the same time. I will bring and share the knowledge that I have gained here for the betterment of the people in my country and in my research area as a whole. Queen’s University Belfast will constantly be in my heart and will always be missed!
