Course Contents

The module introduces Educational Multimedia from an educational perspective, including a presentation of commonly used EMM terminology and an exploration of the contexts in which CBL might be used. 

It reviews a variety of EMM approaches and examines the key issues involved in designing a teaching, instructional or pedagogical approach to courseware development..

Learning Outcomes

Students will demonstrate:

  • knowledge of main learning theories and their application to EMM;
  • knowledge of different EMM approaches and the ability to select appropriate strategies;
  • understanding of analysis and design issues;
  • ability to design and implement appropriate evaluation strategies;
  • understanding of key issues in design;
  • understanding of key developments and issues in technology-based learning (plagiarism, copyright etc)  and indicate good practice.

Skills

  • Understanding key theories of learning, recall of theories;
  • analysis of given piece of EMM to identify underpinning theory.
  • Knowledge of evaluation and testing.
  • Application of knowledge to analysis & design tasks.
  • Use of literature to support design decisions.
  • Ability to use critical analysis skills and develop ideas to a conclusion.
