Introduction to Multimedia II

Course Contents

Planning, costing, designing, testing, and delivering of multimedia applications. Lingo syntax: Messaging and hierarchy, custom handlers, condtions, functions, properties, data structures, file handling, NetLingo. Director environment: introducing object orientation. Producing Shockwave movies. Dreamweaver environment: Frames, Tables, Layers, Behaviours, Image maps, Timeline animations. Principles and concepts of Website design and site management. Streaming technologies.

Supplementary Notes

To pass this module, students must achieve an aggregate mark of 40% and satisfactory performance in all compulsory components - written examination and assignment.  This module is only open to students following Computer Science pathways.

Learning Outcomes

The overall aim of the course is to provide students with an advanced knowledge and skill in the areas of multimedia technologies and the integration of these technologies with the WWW.

Skills

On completion of the module, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate a sound knowledge Macromedia Director and Dreamweaver with emphasis on managing the authoring environment,memory management, member loading, and controlling media.
  • Demonstrate a sound knolwedge of the Lingo syntax, including repetitions, conditional branching, functions, file handling, data structures, event hierarchy.
  • Demonstrate good practice in the design, implementation, testing and delivery of multimedia solutions including WWW based delivery.
  • Design and prepare materials for WWW. Demonstrate a sound knowledge and understanding of the principles and concepts of modern streaming technologies.
