Games Design I

Course Contents

The module will introduce the different theories and approaches involved in the design and development of a successful digital game experience. 
Using professional 'Construction Set' software, students will develop their own immersive 3D game worlds. 
Students will NOT be expected to master high levels of programming, but some logic thinking skills will be needed.

Supplementary Notes

This module is not available for students on BSc/BEng/MEng in Computer Science or BSc in Computing Information Technology pathways.
The maximum number of students limit will be applied if necessary.

Learning Outcomes

  • The student should be able to demonstrate an understanding of how digital game worlds are realised from conception to delivery.
  • The student should be able to show: digital game development skills using construction set software; immersive game design (e.g. gameplay, narrative, 3D level design etc); theoretical support of the design and construction of their digital games; and technical writing.

Ability to analyse, synthesize and communicate digital game design theory.
