Communications and Information Systems 2

Course Contents

This module provides a grounding in the fundamentals of communications systems.

Following a review of the engineering concept of information, the course  examines modulation and demodulation systems, both analogue (AM,FM) and digital (PCM,PSK,QPSK,QAM).

Practical systems such as digital wireless communication, transmission systems and switching systems are examined.

Supplementary Notes

None

Learning Outcomes

To provide students with the theoretical basis required for designing and analysing communications systems in a generalised fashion.

Skills

Assimilation of lecture material, its extrapolation to allow system design and problem solving, reinforcement through practical laboratory sessions.
