Power Electronics 3

Course Contents

This course introduces applications of power electronics in power systems, i.e.: Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS).

It includes analysis of steady-state operation, power flow control and voltage regulation implemented by FACTS and stability analysis and control of FACTS.  Both thyristor controlled and Voltage Source Converter based FACTS devices are discussed.

The Course starts with an introduction on the analysis and control of conventional power transmission systems.

Supplementary Notes

None

Learning Outcomes

To enable students to understand the main operational principles of FACTS.

Skills

Familiarity with high power semiconductors and associated components together with associated circuitry.
