Undergraduate Reading Group

Archaeology/Palaeoecology runs an informal UG reading group specifically for Level 2 and 3 students.

The group meets every 3-4 weeks or so, over a lunch-time slot, to discuss papers of interest to the group. It is designed to assist students in widening their reading, beyond that which may be encountered in specific modules and help them to further develop critical thinking and the free exchange of ideas.

Attendance is entirely voluntary and currently restricted to 20 students.

In the academic year 2011-12, the group is organised by Dr Nicki Whitehouse (, to whom enquiries may be directed.

Meeting dates and readings are indicated below:

3rd October, 12-1 pm in G53. Session proposed by David Bell (L3 students). Readings can be dowloaded from JSTOR:

Meeting 2: 31st October, 12-1 in G53.

For this session we will be looking at the latest issue of the journal 'Antiquity', each member of the group will be selecting a paper of interest to them to bring to the session for discussion. We hope that this will provide a good flavour of the the latest research in archaeology.
