UG Modules 2013-2014 Extended

Each module counts for 20 units of academic credit.

Year 1

Full-time students are required to take 120 units over the academic year and no more than 60 units per semester. GAP1009, GAP1011, GAP1012 and GAP1007 are required modules (C) and count for 80 units in total. In addition students are required to take two modules (40 units) in one of the following languages: French or Spanish. The appropriate language modules, which must be agreed in consultation with the School of Languages, Literature and Performing Arts, will depend on the candidate's A-Level grades (see List B).

Year 2

Students are required to take three modules per semester. These must include the compulsory modules GAP2042 and GAP2040 (40 units in total). Two half-modules (10 units each) will be taken in the chosen foreign language (French or Spanish); see School of Languages, Literature and Performing Arts (see List B). In addition three optional modules (60 units) should be selected from the list below (40 units in one semester and 20 units in the other semester).

Students can take only one of the following: GAP2046, GAP2047 or GAP2048.

Students may substitute a total of 20 optional units within their pathway with 20 units of study in a different subject (e.g. see List C).

Year 3 (Placement Year)

Students undertake the equivalent of 120 QUB units worth of Geography modules at one of our European partner universities under the Socrates Erasmus student mobility programme. Currently we have exchange agreements with Université Joseph Fourier Grenoble (France), Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Spain) and Universidad de Granada (Spain). You must contact the Study Abroad Programme Coordinator by February of the academic year PRIOR to when your placement year commences to discuss placement options, apply to the partner institution, develop a learning agreement and apply for financial support to QUB under the Erasmus programme. Modules are normally taught within the host country’s native language (Spanish or French).

 

Year 4

Full-time students are required to take 120 units over the academic year and no more than 60 units per semester. GAP3057 is a required module (C) and counts for 20 units in total. 100 additional units (O) must be taken (40 in Semester 1, 60 in Semester 2).

At Level 3 students may substitute a total of 20 optional units within their pathway with 20 units of study in a different subject (eg. see List B).
