The Doctoral Centre
Our Research Student Home
With over 175 full time and part time research students from 25 countries worldwide currently studying within doctoral research programmes, the School provides a rich and vibrant context for those wishing to undertake doctoral level degrees.
The Doctoral Centre provides a world-class student experience with high quality research training across disciplines and methodologies while supporting the work of doctoral students and supervisors. We offer a coherent and stimulating programme of training, research seminars and invited lectures to promote demanding academic engagement.
There are many resources available to research students within the School including:
- Access to a wide range of specialist research methods modules available as part of our EdD programme;
- Office accommodation with access to computing facilities;
- Access to the Queen’s University Postgraduate Researcher Development Programme;
- Support to attend conferences for full-time PhD students.
The PhD is a useful preparation for a career within academia or consultancy and is open to both full and part time candidates.
Full time students often choose to study for a PhD because they want to pursue in some depth an area of academic interest. Part time study is an exciting option for professionals already working in the education field who want to extend their knowledge on an issue of professional interest often related to their professional responsibilities.
Professional Doctorates provide an alternative route to a doctorate for mid-career/senior professionals.
You will make an original and independent contribution to educational knowledge in the field determined by the topic of your dissertation study. You will have demonstrated a critical evaluation of the relevant literature, a high level of competence in appropriate research methods, and the ability to communicate the results and their implications.
