The 2013 G8 Pre-summit Conference is organized by the School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy, Queen’s University Belfast and the G8 Research Group at the University of Toronto.
For the first time in history a major international summit is being hosted in Northern Ireland. The G8 leaders’ meeting at Lough Erne, County Fermanagh, 17-18 June, is the culmination of the UK’s presidency of the G8 in 2013. As a prominent international research university, with strengths in international politics and political economy, Queen’s University Belfast plans to host the annual pre-summit conference in the Great Hall on the 14 June 2013. In hosting this event, Queen’s has partnered with the world’s leading G8 Research Group, which oversees the G8 Information Centre website at the University of Toronto http://www.g8.utoronto.ca. Leading G7/G8 scholars Professor John Kirton of the Munk School of Global Affairs, University of Toronto, and Director of the G8 Research Centre, and Dr Andrew Baker of the School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy, Queen’s University Belfast, have collaborated to produce a conference programme that brings together leading international and local experts to discuss and dissect the forthcoming summit’s agenda and prospects. The conference is an annual event held at an institution close to the summit venue, organized by the University of Toronto G8 Research Group, and attracts the attention of the world’s media, public intellectuals and academic specialists in world politics and global governance.
