The Association of Young Irish Archaeologists (AYIA) was founded in 1968 by a group of students from Queens University Belfast.

Membership is automatic for individuals who are members of their own universities Archaeology Society, as well as recent graduate students and those relatively new to the profession. The most important event that the AYIA runs is its annual conference, which will be held at Queen's University, Belfast on March 6th-8th 2015. The purpose of the AYIA is to facilitate communication and co-operation between interested parties, to provide a forum for new ideas and to foster interest and enthusiasm for archaeology for those in their early career of the subject
