BELFAST 2013

The third annual World Cyber Security Technology Research Summit (Belfast 2013) took place on 14-15th March 2013 at the ECIT Institute in Belfast's Titanic Quarter.

The Summit continued the work of Belfast 2011 and Belfast 2012.

This year focused on Impact, showcasing international applied research from Academia and Industry informed by Belfast 2012 and the four defined research roadmaps (Adaptive Cyber Security Technologies | Protection of Smart Utility Grids | Security of the Mobile Platform and Applications | Multi-faceted Cyber Security Research).

The 'invite only' event again brought together leading international research centres with government policy makers and industry. Held over two days the Summit featured keynote presentations and moderated open discussions.

1. Is it the end for the road for username/password?

This breakout session will be co-facilitated by Dr Paul Miller, Research Director Intelligent Surveillance Systems Group at CSIT and Mark Crosbie, Head of Information Security EMEA at Facebook. The session will be scibed by David Crozier, Technical Marketing Manager at CSIT.

 

2. Transitioning research into deployed solutions

This breakout session will be co-facilitated by Dr Ulf Lindqvist, Program Director at SRI International and Zachary Tudor, Programme Director at SRI International. The session will be scribed by Stephen Wray, Commercial Director at CSIT.

 

3. Enhancing cooperation between CERTs, Law Enforcement and Government

This breakout session will be co-facilitated by Brian Honan, BH Consulting and Brian Higgins, Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA). The session will be scribed by Philip Mills, Business Development Manager at CSIT.

 

4. Privacy in the age of the digital native and digital immigrant

This breakout session will be co-facilitated by Raj Samani, VP CTO EMEA at McAfee and Prof Awais Rashid, Lancaster University. The session will be scribed by Dr Rosi Armstrong, Research Assistant at CSIT.

Strategic Roadmaps from Belfast 2012

The main output of the 2012 Summit was four group-edited strategic roadmap documents, produced to inform collective research within applied research institutes. 

These were based on the following core themes:

  2. Protection of Smart Utility Grids

  3. Security of Mobile Platforms and Applications

  4. Multifaceted Approach to Cyber Security Research
