LIQUID CRYSTAL CONTROLLED SCANNING PHASED ARRAY FOR REMOTE SENSING

Novel research based on the voltage dependent material properties of liquid crystal has resulted in fast very low power scanning phased array radar system for remote scanning.

This system can be used on security applications for the imaging of people with objects embedded in clothing. The technology is being extended to different frequencies where the penetration properties will be different.

Significant advantages are very low power drain for portable applications and electronic scanning without the reliability problems of mechanical systems.
