Green Week 2012

The University's annual Green Week takes place from 19 -23 November. The purpose of the week, which is being held to coincide with the European Week for Waste Reduction, is to raise environmental awareness and engage with staff and students on environmental issues.

The programme for the week is as follows:

Launch of Recipe Competition– Love Food Hate Waste Theme (Students)
5 typical student food items and left overs – submit recipe ideas along with a photograph of your meal for four to be in with a chance of winning a £50 meal voucher!

Ingredients: 1 of the following- Pasta, Potatoes OR Rice
                   1 packet of sausages OR bacon
                   1 fresh seasonal vegetable
                   1 tin of fruit or vegetables
                    + 1 other ingredient of your choice

Find out what you can do reduce your Carbon Footprint
Come along for free advice on how to reduce your waste and recycle more. As well as top tips on reducing your energy usage and travelling more sustainably.		 MBC Foyer, 11.00am-2.00pm

Re:cycle  - Bike Safety Check (East Belfast Mission)
Students who took advantage of the re:cycle scheme this summer are invited to come along for a free basic bike check and helpful hints on how to care for your bicycle.

Common threads at Common Grounds Café
Free make-do and mend tips and advice. Save money and make the most of your clothes and accessories. Learn crochet, knitting and sewing, or learn to use a sewing machine. (Non-students are also welcome) Limited places available, sign up by emailing wasteeducation@belfastcity.gov.uk.
