AIL Teaching and Learning within the School of Biological Sciences at Queens

AIL techniques are employed within the School of Biological Sciences at every undergraduate level across a variety of modules.  The most obvious of these techniques are fieldwork and laboratory practical sessions. Both fieldwork and laboratory practical sessions have been ingrained in the HE curriculum for many years and are argued by some as essential in the education and development of biology students.  Both these practices are by their very nature active and interactive. Other AIL methods currently used within the School include peer assessment, interactive powerpoint presentations, interactive teaching environments / intearctive teaching rooms, virtual practicals and using the personal response system.

To disseminate various AIL methods and activities currently being used by staff in the School of Biological Sciences, the Bioscience CEAIL ran a workshop during May 2008.  Staff were invited to give a short presentation on the types of AIL they use and how they feel it benefits both students and themselves.  For details of the workshop the accompanying programme can be viewed by clicking here.
