23rd May 2008 – Active and Interactive Learning (AIL) workshop
The Bioscience CEAIL hosted a workshop open to all members of academic staff in the School of Biological Sciences outlining some of the current AIL practices being employed within the School. Several members of academic staff who have experience in and use AIL methods gave a range of interesting talks detailing their own experiences and the possible benefits to both students and staff. 15th September 2008 – The Personal Response System (PRS)
The PRS technology is similar to that of the popular quiz ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’. It allows the audience (students) select an answer from a given list by interacting with a keypad. This internal workshop was open to all academic members of staff within the School of Biological Sciences. It was organised in conjunction with and run by Information Services at QUB, it outlined how to use the PRS technology, let the attendees set up their own ‘quiz’ and outlined examples of good practice.
22nd January 2009 - Assessing Student Learning in Work Placements
In conjunction with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Centre for Biosciences an event has been organized based on the theme of assessing student performance while on work-based placement. Examples of good practice are currently in place across UK Higher Education Institutions and provide a consistent, reliable evaluation of a student's experience on a work-based placement. 21st April 2009 – Engaging with Excellence
Engaging with Excellence dissemination day will include an address by Prof. Ray Lund (keynote speaker) and the chance for the auidience to particiapte in one of three workshops offered and delivered by the three Centres of Excellence in Teaching and Learning at QUB; The Centre for Excellence in Active and Interactive Learning, The Centre for Excellence in the Creative and Performing Arts and The Centre for Excellence in Interprofessional Education. 19th May 2010 - Developing Laboratory Skills for the 21st Century
In partnership with the Higher Education Academy (HEA) Centre for Biosciences and the Experiential Learning CETL at the University of Plymouth an event has been organized highlighting the development of laboratory skills in higher education.
