Skills related learning outcomes cannot be realised within traditional tranmission models of teaching. The focus of this project is to shift the emphasis towards the processes of learning and towards transformed pedagogies for higher education. This is supported by research into the scolarship of teaching and learning (SOTL) and major ESRC research projects (www.tlrp.org)

Skills development is an essential component of engineering education which is best delivered as an embedded part of an active and interactive model. The School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering belongs to the CDIO organisation. The tenet of CDIO is that 'engineering graduates should understand how to conceive, design, implement and operate complex value added products and systems in a team-based environment'. Students learn experientially by rehearsing the the work they will undertake as graduates.

CEAIL enables the School to enhance team-based active learning experiences.
