FREE NATIONAL STANDARDS CYCLE TRAINING

CTC, The National Cycling Charity and have launched a cycle training opportunity funded by Active Belfast. The free cycle training is available from now until 29 March 2013.

What are the National Standards for Cycle Training?

The National Standards are taught over three levels to promote confidence on a bike, enjoyment of cycling, road awareness and interaction with traffic.

Level 1 - conducted in a controlled environment away from roads and traffic. Basic cycle control skills including starting and pedalling, stopping, manoeuvring, signalling and using gears
Level 2 - on-road training for those who have completed Level 1 and are ready to progress; it gives real cycling experience and makes you feel safer and capable of dealing with traffic on your journeys
Level 3 - dealing with hazards, making 'on-the-move' risk assessments and planning routes for safer cycling. You learn to cope with all types of road conditions and more complex situations.

Visit the CTC website (www.ctc.org.uk/training/cycle-training-for-adults) for more details about each level of the training.
