Conference Aims

Conference Aims

This conference is designed for practitioners, policy makers and researchers with the aim of:

  • raising the awareness of domestic violence and sharing research findings and practice developments from across Europe and beyond  and discuss the implications for policy and practice;
  • promoting the evidence base informing policy and practice developments relating to domestic violence;
  • encouraging the development of effective policy and good practice  by networking and resourcing between delegates; and,
  • developing research and practice networks and methods and tools on preventing and combating domestic violence.

 The conference will focus on:

  • studying forms of violence and abuse in a wide range of intimate relationships
  • improving our understanding of the nature and dynamics of domestic violence
  • promoting effective prevention of domestic violence and risk reduction approaches
  • promoting the evidence base informing effective interventions with those at risk of domestic violence
  • improving the response to and care of victims of domestic violence, including children
  • Describing physical and mental health impacts and the health service role in identifying and responding to domestic violence
  • improving collaboration through a multi-agency approach to domestic violence
  • improving the effective contribution of government strategies and policies
  • promoting effective working with young people who experience violence in their intimate relationships
  • improving the quality and effectiveness of work with perpetrators of violence
  • understanding the intersection of domestic violence with other forms of harm
  • exploring the national and transnational policy frameworks for addressing the structural nature of violence in intimate relationships in society
  • improving the ability to understand the nature of and response to domestic violence through international collaborations
  • exploring the gendered nature of domestic violence
