As part of Queen's University Belfast's (QUB) School of Electronics, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, ECIT undertakes much more ambitious, real-world, "mission and team orientated" research than is usual in a more conventional university educational environment.

Queen's University is among the top universities in the UK in both research and teaching.  As a result, the School currently attracts staff and students from over 70 countries worldwide. QUB  is one of the most exceptional universities in the UK; it is a member of the Russell Group, a select band of the top 20 research intensive academic institutions, which includes universities such as Oxford and Cambridge.  As the 9th oldest university in the UK, Queen's is rich with heritage.  The University's proud academic tradition stretches back over 160 years and today Queen's influence far transcends its geographical location.

An important role of ECIT is to work with companies, share longer-term industrial and technology road-maps and to engage in "over-the-horizon" research in selected areas demonstrating strong market potential that are aligned with its internationally leading expertise.
