Roundtable 5

The fourth session (March 7th 2005) of the UCD Equality and Social Inclusion Roundtable Discussion Series 2004-2005 involved representatives of three Irish political parties: Kieran Allen (UCD Socialist Workers Party) and Paul Murphy (Socialist Party) and Alex White (Dublin City Councillor, Labour Party). Discussion focused on how some of the more radical ideals set out in Equality: From Theory to Action could be realised in practice. There was further extensive debate on the generative causes of inequality and particularly the primacy accorded economics in certain frameworks. The neglect of gender and care labour in political discourse was highlighted.
