The Bulgarian team is located in the Institute of Sociology, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, which was founded in 1968. It is the most important research centre in the field of contemporary sociology in Bulgaria and conducts basic and field research on social organizations and politics, employment, communities and ethnic conflicts, social integration, rural communities, agriculture and others. The members of Bulgarian team are involved in several national and international projects.

Dr. Rumiana Jeleva
Research Fellow at the Institute of Sociology, Department ‘Sociology of Work and Social Policy’ and former Visiting Professor in European Studies at the University in Magdeburg. Lecturer in Public Affairs and Corporate Communications at the University of Sofia (MA Programme “Labour Markets and Human Resources Management“). Involved also in the FP6 project Work Organisation and Restructuring in the Knowledge Society (WORKS); 2003-2005 involved in the comparative research project Way from the Cities: Life in the Countryside in Eastern Europe. Rural Life World in Russia, Estonia and Bulgaria, financed by German Academic Research Council (DFG). She is experienced in qualitative methods, especially in carrying out narrative and biographical interviews of entrepreneurs, farmers and representatives of ethnic minorities.
Dr. Mariana Draganova
Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Sociology, Department of Communities and Social Stratification. She is a rural sociologist, experienced in the field of social and economic transformation in rural areas, family farming and new social actors in Bulgarian agriculture, rural gender issues, regional policy and sustainable rural development. She was a member of the Executive Committee of European Society for Rural Sociology (1993-1997). She was also involved in the project Men and Women in Bulgarian Agriculture: Division of Labour, Decision – Making and Access to Resource (FAO of the UN) and World Bank Survey (2003) Bulgaria: Survey on Rural Development Needs.
