Globalisation has brought with it unprecedented changes to food security land and the environment with much more effects in the rural areas. In view of this, the institute has designed different Programmes to equip students with the kind of knowledge and range of skills essential to assume leadership and decision-making roles, become core of sustainability champions and gain valuable knowledge on renewable energy and diversification issues.
The Institute delivers the full-time and part-time MSc Leadership in Sustainable Rural Development and the full-time Leadership for Sustainable Development (MSc). It also delivers the BSc in Land Use and Environmental Management accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Together with The South Western Regional College, in Omagh, the Institute offers both full time and part time foundation degrees FdSc in Energy , Environment and Sustainability both of which can progress into Stage 2 of the Institute’s BSc Honors in Land Use and Environmental Management at Queens. Also offered on part time basis is the BSc degree in Energy Environment and sustainability developed as a vision 2020 Widening Access Degree under project 10. in The Gibson Institute offers a complete range of, rural development sustainability, agricultural and environmental education from foundation degrees to PhDs and provides specialist modules to other Queens’s degrees such as the Agricultural Technology, Geography, Biological Science and Food Quality, Safety and Nutrition Management degrees. All three levels of education, undergraduate, masters and doctorates in the Institute, are offered both full time and part-time and possibilities exist for study both on and off Queen's Belfast campus.
