Aim
Globalisation has brought with it unprecedented changes to rural areas.  No longer protected from these wider forces, rural areas face continued challenges in agriculture alongside a societal desire to maintain rural society while protecting and enhancing its environment.  This graduate programme aims to inform and equip those wishing to pursue a career in rural development; be that related to environmental, economic or social and cultural aspects of this broad topic.

Aim
This Programme is designed to equip students with the kind of knowledge and range of skills that those aspiring to leadership and decision-making roles will need.  The major aim is to build a core of sustainability champions who have the competence and confidence to become twenty-first century leaders.

Aim
Designed to provide students with an understanding of the integrated and holistic nature of land use and environmental management this pathway is offered as both a 3 year and a 4 year programme.  The 4 year programme includes a 46 week period of work placement during which students also carry out a project.  The 3 year programme has a 16 week work placement.  The degree (3 and 4 year options) includes core modules in Environmental Management and Policy, Environmental Assessment, Work placement and Policies for Environmental Sustainability and a wide range of optional modules from Environmental Planning, Geography, Biology, Economics, Sociology and Politics and International Studies.

Aim
A Foundation Degree in Rural Sustainability (FdSc), the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, has been launched by South West College.  Validated by Queen's University, the part-time course, available from September 2006, has been developed to meet the needs of local rural and land based business sectors.  This new course aims to attract students from areas within the rural profile, from recent school leavers to current workers within the sector and anyone wishing to gain valuable knowledge on sustainability, renewable energy and diversification issues.  The course will be delivered during one full day and one evening, effectively enabling students' access from across Northern Ireland.

Aim
