Social Programme

The Conference will offer a wide range of social activty throughout the week. Listed below are details of social events and tours.

SOCIAL EVENTS

We hope that we will cater for a wide range of cultural, ethnic and religious backgrounds.  A range of food and drinks will be available at all social events organised by IMC11.  If you have any particular requirements in this regard please get in touch and we will see what we can do to help.

Some drinks will be provided i.e. included in ticket price at each event, but there will also be a for-purchase bar.

Opening Reception 6.30-9.30pm Sunday 11 August 2013

Great Hall and Quadrangle Queen’s Main Building

This will be both inside and outside around the Lanyon Building, the original building of Queen’s College dating back to 1845.  There will be a buffet and a range of drinks as well as musical entertainment.  This is a good opportunity to renew old friendships, make new acquaintances and familiarise yourself with the geography of IMC11 locations.

Cost: included in Registration

Social Event at Bellevue Zoo 7.00pm -10.00pm Wednesday 14 August 2013

After the tours there is just enough time to get ready for an evening at Belfast Zoo.  Transport to and from the Zoo will be available from 6.30pm on a shuttle system.  The Zoo has a spectacular site overlooking Belfast Lough just under Napoleon’s Nose on Cave Hill.  IMC11 will have access through the public areas of the Zoo.  BBQ style food with vegetarian options and drinks will be provided.

Cost: including transport, food, drinks £15 includes VAT

Dinner Great Hall 7.30pm for 8.00pm to late Thursday 15 August 2013

The Great Hall is the main venue at Queen’s for social as well as ceremonial purposes.  It is a fine venue for slightly more formal functions.  A drinks reception will be followed by a five course meal.  Standard of catering and service is high.  The atmosphere will be civilised.  But you can change all that by going on to the Speakeasy for the Last Night Party.

Cost:  £45 including Drinks Reception and admission into Last Night Party in the Speakeasy (Max. numbers 160, book on a first come first served basis)

Buffet in Speakeasy 8.00pm to late Thursday 15 August 2013

This is a departure from IMC tradition but in order to meet the tastes of a wide range of people and to keep costs down a buffet meal will be provided in the Speakeasy Bar of the Students’ Union.  The Students’ Union is a stone’s throw from the Main University buildings where IMC11 is based as well as accommodating the poster sessions and exhibitors.

Cost: including food, some drinks and Last Night Party in Speakeasy £25

Last Night Party in Speakeasy 9.30pm onwards Thursday 15 August 2013

Speakeasy is the venue which everyone is welcome whether they have spent the evening at Queen’s or beyond. Bar open to midnight.

Cost: Last Night Party in Speakeasy £6
