Welcome to the Philosophy, Citizenship and Schools Website

At Queen’s, we aim to support the promotion of philosophy in schools through a number of initiatives.  These include:

• One-off talks and conferences aimed at sixth-formers;

• Our highly innovative ‘philosophy for citizenship’ course, which is particularly suitable for the P7 to P9 age-range, and which combines the ‘philosophy for children’ pedagogy with a suite of learning resources geared towards the NI citizenship (PMU and LLM) curriculum;

• Teacher training and support in philosophy for citizenship/philosophy for children.

On these webpages, you will find details of these initiatives together with useful learning resources and links.  You will also gain a sense of the variety of different ways in which philosophy can add value to the school curriculum.  Although we are certainly keen to support Philosophy A Level wherever possible, we also believe that philosophy can be of value to much younger children (including primary-age children) and can be effectively harnessed to other subjects, such as citizenship and politics. We will be posting advertisements for future events on this site in due course, but if, in the meantime, you would like further information, or you would like to request a sixth-form talk from one of our staff members, please don’t hesitate to email Jeremy Watkins (j.watkins@qub.ac.uk).
