Mindfulness for Stress Reduction

Many PGR students identify the process of research study as isolating because each student is working on a unique piece of research.  While this isolation is one of the normal stressors encountered by researchers in training, it may lead to a build up of stress which can impact upon the progress of the PhD.    Equally, there are many other potential stressors for PGR students.   For this reason we are making available to students a series of mindfulness sessions starting in January 2012.

Mindfulness based stress reduction is offered at Queen’s through the Adult Education Centre where it is described as follows:  “The course has been developed using the model of Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD, of the University of Massachusetts.  It was been known for centuries in the meditative tradition that the sustained practice of mindfulness meditation can have profoundly healing and transformative effects in one’s life.”

Frank Liddy, who facilitates the course, has agreed to run a series of classes for postgraduate research students at Queen’s.  If you are interested in using mindfulness as a tool, please sign up by sending an email back to us, or simply turn up on the day.  Below you will find information from Frank about Mindfulness, and details of the dates, time and venue are below:
