Meeting to Brief Mentees, Allocate Mentors & Launch Scheme

Peer Mentoring

A key date early in the mentoring calendar is the time when mentors meet with mentees.  This should be as close to induction as possible.  Mentees receive a briefing document which will give more information about their role as well as boundaries relevant to mentoring and other information.

Schools hold this initial meeting in different ways as listed below:

  • At the beginning of a social event in Induction week
  • At the end of Part 2 of the mentor training
  • At an event to launch the mentoring scheme

Postgraduate Research Peer Mentors aim to:

  • Signpost resources and/or help with problem solving
  • Support the induction process by helping to absorb and clarify new information
  • Provide support using their own expereince of 1st year
  • Support new students in developing strategies to deal with PhD issues (see mentee briefing sheet for further information)

More information on the peer mentoring scheme will be available at your school induction.
