Clerical Boarding Schemes

The University has an ongoing requirement for Clerical Officers in Schools and Departments across the organisation. To help us fill these vacancies in a timely manner, we maintain Clerical Boarding Lists which are established and valid for up to 12 months and used to fill clerical vacancies as and when they arise. Candidates on these lists are ranked in merit order and particular areas of strength highlighted to allow identification of a candidate that best matches the recruiting department's requirements in terms of skills and competences, work experience, work pattern, preferred location etc.

Boarding lists are used to fill Clerical Officer posts at Grade 2, 3 and 4. We currently have vacancies at Grade 3:

Clerical Officer Grade 3 17/105765

Roles at this grade will perform a range of tasks as part of a specific clerical/secretarial service or service team, working within established processes and procedures. While the work may not be subject to close supervision, managerial guidance is readily available. The roles require a good working knowledge of systems and processes, and may involve responsibility for a specific area of work from start to finish. This means there will be responsibility for prioritising tasks within the agreed schedule and for resolving many problems or queries, although more complex issues will be referred to others.

The application process for Clerical Boarding schemes has 3 stages:

  1. Application: Applicants are required to submit an online application form detailing how they meet the relevant employee specification.
  2. Test: Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to complete a series of online skills assessment tests relevant for the post of Clerical Officer.  A successful test result will be valid for 2 years from date of completion and therefore candidates will not be required to repeat the testing stage for any application within this period where the same group of tests are being used.
  3. Interview: Candidates who successfully complete the tests are then invited to attend a structured interview with a panel consisting of a member of the Personnel Department and representatives from Schools and Directorates. If a candidate is unsuccessful after interview, they will not normally be eligible to reapply for a boarding exercise at the same grade within 6 months of their interview date.
