To be innovative educators and to engage in research of global significance.
The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice
Led by Professor Hastings Donnan, the Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice is focused on responding to the challenge of building a peaceful, secure and inclusive world.
The rapid growth in threat and insecurity worldwide, together with Queen’s experience and expertise of a society emerging from conflict, positions the Institute to deliver a compelling and unique research contribution.
The Institute advances the comparative study of conflict transformation and social justice by providing a space for dialogue between researchers, practitioners, policy makers and political activists from local, regional, national and international spheres of influence.
At the heart of the Institute is the strong recognition of the inseparability of social justice from the sustainable processes of conflict transformation and ultimately, of peace.
As one of the University’s flagship Global Research Institutes (GRI), the Institute is a world leader of excellence in the areas of peace, security and justice, attracting postgraduate students to a number of related disciplines across AHSS.
The creation of new GRIs willincrease interdisciplinarity, enhance the level of selectivityin investment and raise capacityin areas of key research strength.
The Humanities at Queen’s enjoy worldwide acclaim. Help us as we lay the foundation for a vibrant future.
