Queen’s named Best Green Business
Environmental Manager Sara Lynch and Energy Manager Tony Schmidt with the Belfast Business Award for Best Green Business
Queen’s has been named Best Green Business at the Belfast Business Awards 2012 for its efforts in minimising its impact on the environment.
Queen’s Environmental Manager, Sara Lynch, received the award on behalf of the University at a gala reception in the City Hall.
The award, which was sponsored by Power NI, was open to businesses who, in the last three years, have implemented environmental management policies or principles.
The judges praised the University’s corporate focus on sustainability and its implementation of a number of environmental policies, including the Carbon Management Plan, which are achieving real results. These include: carbon reduction; waste minimisation and increased recycling; more staff and students using sustainable forms of transport; increased biodiversity across the campus; and the use of sustainability features in building design.
The Belfast Business Awards give local businesses an opportunity to be recognised for the work of businesses, enterprises, retail outlets and business people across the city.
