‘Brave New Ocean’ was a lecture symposium with guest internationally speaker Professor Jeremy Jackson from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego.
The main talk, named after Aldous Huxley’s novel ‘Brave New World’ took a look at some of the most fundamental changes that have occured in our oceans and coastal seas due to human activity; their implications and what we can do about them.
The day also included speakers on Marine Protected Areas and marine policy and was introduced by Minisiter for the Environment, Mr. Edwin Poots. The event was organised by the Ulster Wildlife Trust (UWT) in collaboration with a number of marine research organisations.
