Queen's students bringing the Magic of Maths alive

Queen's students Kristina Holsgrove and Mark Monteith from the School of Maths and Physics will be helping bring the magic of maths alive at Maths in the City, Victoria Square, Belfast on Saturday 20 October from 12 noon to 4.00pm. Mark is studying for a Masters in Maths and Kristina who is President of the Maths Society is taking a Masters in Applied Maths and Physics.

This will be the grand finale event of Maths Week. The centre will buzz with national and internationally renowned mathematicians entertaining the shoppers and passers-by with challenges, mazes, maths magic, puzzles and card tricks.

Throughout Maths Week visiting international mathematicians have been bringing maths alive for thousands of primary and secondary school students across Northern Ireland. Shows have included the Maths Magic Show with 'mathemagician' Dr Fernando Blasco from Madrid, the Maths and Music Show with international maths team Paco Gomez, Giovanna Farigu and Gutxi Cespedes; Card Tricks and Maths with Andrew Jeffrey; The Maths Challenge with Doug Buchanan.

Maths Week partners include the University of Ulster, Queen's University Belfast, Stranmillis University College, W5 and Armagh Planetarium who are all hosting events.
