Please find below some information regarding your visit to Belfast for this conference which we hope will be beneficial to you.

Accommodation

The Hilton Hotel offers a special Queen’s corporate rate for those wishing to stay during the conference. The nightly rate is £79 and includes breakfast, but this rate is subject to limited availability so we would advise that delegates book early. Please contact the hotel directly and quote corporate code 233174973 to avail of the discounted rate. Should you wish to stay elsewhere in Belfast or experience any difficulties when booking a room then please contact Michael Hills whom will assist with accommodation requests and provide alternatives.

Wi-Fi Access

The Hilton Hotel offers a free wireless internet service in the public areas of the hotel. Wi-Fi will be available in the conference room but this is not a free service with access charged at £4.80 per laptop. The Wi-Fi service is provided by BT Openzone

Printing Facilities

Please note, the Hilton Hotel does offer limited printing and photocopying facilities in their business centre however this service will incur a charge for delegates. It is thus advisable to ensure that you bring any required printed materials with you to the conference.

On-site Conference Registration and Information Desk  

Delegate registration will take place from 8.30 - 9.15am in the Lagan Foyer. For those arriving late, the desk will remain open till 10.00am. If you require any information, please feel free to ask one of the organisers.

Conference Packs

Delegates will receive a delegate name badge at registration which must be worn at all times throughout the conference.  Delegates will receive a conference pack containing the conference programme, abstracts, poster list and a delegate list containing name, organisation/affiliation of all the delegates attending. The pack will also contain some safefood Knowledge Networks information and visitor information for those that have decided to stay in Belfast during the conference.

Programme

All keynote lectures and plenary sessions will be held in the Hilton Hotel, Belfast. A full conference programme will be made available the conference website in addition to being emailed to those registered as attending, It will also will be provided in the conference pack on registration.

Poster Sessions, Exhibitors and Sponsors

The Poster Sessions and exhibition displays will be held in the Lagan Suite and Lagan Foyer during the allocated time slots. Presenters are requested to put up their posters and exhibits upon arrival.

Book of Abstracts

All accepted abstracts will be printed as part of the conference proceedings, and will be included as part of the conference programme and abstracts, which will be available to all delegates at registration. 

Personal Belongings

Delegates must be responsible for their own personal belongings at all times.  Delegates will have access to a cloakroom located in the Lagan Foyer and can be used for the storage of luggage and coats. All items that are left in the venue at the owners own risk.


Travelling to the venue: The Hilton Hotel, where the Conference is to be held, is situated at Lanyon Place, beside the Waterfront Hall in Belfast city centre and is easily accessible by bus, train or on foot. To get to the venue, the following information may be useful:

By air:

Belfast is easily reached from either Belfast International Airport or the George Best Belfast City Airport. George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD) is situated approximately three miles from the city centre. A taxi to the Hilton Hotel will cost approximately £8.00.  The Airport Express 600, departs from outside the Airport every 20 minutes from early morning to late evening and costs approx £2.20 single and £3.30 return; it terminates at the Great Victoria Street (Europa) Bus Station. 

Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove is situated about 19 miles from the city centre. The Airport Express 300, bus service operates a 24 hour service between the airport and Belfast with buses departing every 10 minutes throughout the day. The bus leaves from the bus stop located opposite the terminal exit. Approximate journey time is 30-40 minutes subject to traffic conditions and costs £7.00 single and £10.00 return. A taxi to the Hilton Hotel will cost approximately £25.00.

Dublin Airport is approximately 160 kilometres (100 miles) from Belfast. The journey by bus takes approximately 2 hours 30 minutes. Bus Eireann and Ulsterbus operate a 24 hour service between Dublin Airport and Belfast (Great Victoria Street (Europa) Bus Station).

 

By sea:
Belfast is easy accessed by sea crossing from Scotland and England by ferry. The Port of Belfast is located close to the city centre and a taxi journey from the Port of Belfast to the Hilton Hotel would cost approximately £8.00. The Port of Larne is located approximately 24 miles from Belfast City Centre and an average journey would take approximately

40 minutes depending upon traffic. The Port of Larne is also served by Northern Ireland Railways which operates services to and from Belfast Central Station.

By car:

Car parking facilities are available beside the Hilton Hotel and costs £5.70 for three hours and then £1.90 per hour thereafter. Delegates are able to avail of a discounted maximum daily rate of £12 and will be awarded a voucher on registration allowing you to avail of this special rate. Other car parks are available in Belfast city centre and within short walking distance of the hotel. Q-Park operates the Victoria Square car park and charge an hourly rate of £2.70 and a maximum daily charge of £25.00. If travelling by car please be advised that early morning rush hour traffic in Belfast city centre can slow journey times considerably.
