WINNER - Chloe Dugan

Finance Directorate

Acting up as a Buyer in the Procurement Office, Chloe Dugan witnessed a significant spike in research-funded procurement activity in 2015-16, with multiple tenders relating to high-profile, complex projects landing on her desk.

Working on her own initiative, Chloe demonstrated great flair and professionalism, bringing in 14 contracts within eight months and even making time to undertake professional procurement exams. She has been described as a ‘positive role model’ who brings out the best in others.

Ling Bai

China Queen’s College

An English-language Teaching Associate at CQC, Ling Bai developed a fresh approach to teaching in 2015-16 that freed her students from a learning style dominated by exams. She introduced a variety of learning activities for students including inviting them to design posters and engage in debates.

As well as enjoying these activities, the students achieved better exam and assessment results than in the previous year. Ling thinks of it as ‘bringing Queen’s values to the student experience at CQC’, encouraging students to think independently and strive for excellence.

Dr Geoff Cunningham

School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

Dr Cunningham is in his third term as Director of Education at the School and is renowned for his high standards, along with an ability to inspire his team and bring out the best in colleagues. During the past eight years he has led education provision through periods of significant change and upheaval and has improved a number of processes including initiating a comprehensive review of the School exams process, implementing the use of SharePoint to improve efficiency, and an overhaul of the undergraduate curriculum.

Professor Ruth Leitch

School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work

In addition to her day-job, Professor Leitch, who leads the REF preparations for Education, contributes to several research initiatives within the School, including the Centre for Shared Education and the Centre for Children’s Rights. A champion of narrative and arts-based research, she was nominated by a postgraduate student who said Professor Leitch was an “absolute inspiration”, who invested so much into her students’ development, including giving up her own time to support them through difficult challenges.
