Seminar 7 May 2009
20 Years of the CRC: A Multidisciplinary Approach
Seminar
On 7th May, the Research Forum for the Child at Queen's and the Human Rights Centre at the School of Law co-hosted an event on 'The UNCRC at 20 - A Multidisciplinary Approach'. The event was organised by Dr Sylvie Langlaude and Dr Aoife Nolan at the School of Law and Mr Gavin Duffy at the School of Education. This very well-attended and stimulating seminar featured presentations by UN experts, as well as international and NI-based academics and professionals working on children's rights issues. Speakers included Afsane Bassir Pour (Director, Regional UN Information Centre, Brussels), Ursula Kilkelly (School of Law, University College Cork), Alex Tennant (NICCY) and Laura Lundy (School of Education, QUB). Presentations focused on issues ranging from the development of children's rights indicators and children's rights-based research methods to topics such as the legal contribution of the CRC and transitional justice and children's rights. The interdisciplinary event served to provide a useful space within which researchers working on children's rights in different contexts were able to interact and share information and experiences – a fact that was reflected by the thoughtful and lively exchanges between speakers and attendees both during and following the seminar.
