The creation, interpretation and enforcement of children’s rights standards is a key focus for practitioners, academics and civil society advocates. Indeed, the increasing incorporation of children’s rights into international, regional and domestic instruments, has resulted in these rights being the subject of ever-greater levels of judicial and quasi-judicial attention, leading to extensive discussion and debate about the obligations imposed by, and the limitations applicable to, such rights. More broadly, the growing employment of ‘child rights-based approaches’ by a range of actors, including policymakers and members of the children’s sector, has raised key issues with regard to the definition and content of such approaches.
The 'Exploring Children's Rights' special interest group will bring together researchers from a range of disciplines to consider the usefulness and applicability of children's rights standards, and the limitations of their enforceability, in a wide range of contexts. The special interest group will also explore the meaning and development of child rights based approaches, drawing on the research experiences of group members.
This SIG is supported by the Improving Children’s Lives Initiative.
