Children and Political Conflict

Update March 2010

The first meeting of the SIG was held in the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work on 18th March.  Group members discussed their research interests and decided on a programme of events for the forthcoming semester.  The Group decided to meet every six weeks in the first instance and to use the opportunity to discuss their research and gain feedback from group members. 

The next meeting of the SIG will take place in the Meeting Room at the School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work at 1.00pm on  Thursday 6th May**  (coffee/sandwiches will be available from 12.30).  Madeleine Leonard and Martina McKnight will present some of the preliminary findings of their current research into young people’s views of growing up in post-conflict Belfast as part of the ESRC funded project Contested Cities and the Contested State www.conflictincities.org .  For catering purposes anyone wishing to attend should contact martina.mcknight@qub.ac.uk

On 14-16th April, the Inaugural Centre for Research in Political Psychology will be holding a conference entitled ‘Tearing Down the Walls: rethinking the political in political psychology’.  The conference aims to facilitate dialogue between political psychologists and researchers from other social sciences and humanities.
