The Department of Water Quality Management and Water Supply of the Institute for Sanitary Engineering, Water Quality and Solid Waste Management (ISWA) at the University of Stuttgart deals in research and teachings with the water quality of surface water and groundwater and with their characteristics and interferences as well as with technical questions of water supply and water treatment systems.
At the department's disposal there are several laboratories of the institute for biological, chemical and physical analysis of water as well as equipment for the investigation of water supply systems, waterworks and of surface water and groundwater. For attempts in the half technical and technical scale testing halls are available.
A main point of the research work is the research on subterranean water treatment and on anthropogenic influences on living organisms in subterranean communities, for example in the aquifer, and their interference in terms of water treatment measures by micro-biological processes.
In the context of educational work a multitude of lectures in different study courses are offered.
