Dr. Robert S. Pierce
Dr. Robert S. Pierce received his B.AeroEng degree with honours from Monash University in 2009, having also spent some time as a research engineer with Advanced Composite Structures Australia (formerly the CRC-ACS). He was awarded his PhD in engineering from Monash University in 2015, which focussed on the simulation of vacuum-assisted resin infusion for complex composite structures, in association with Boeing Aerostructures Australia. Immediately following his PhD, Dr. Pierce moved to Queen’s University Belfast to develop and undertake an industrially-motivated project at the NIACE Centre. This current research concerns the inspection and repair of composite structures in collaboration with Bombardier, CCP Gransden, Datum and Wrightbus in Northern Ireland. His research interests in the field of composites include out-of-autoclave manufacturing, woven fabrics, process modelling, non-destructive inspection and material characterisation.
